Local cities, counties and the State of Washington are joining the national government in all declaring September 2007 to be ovarian cancer awareness month. The Washington proclamations are the effort of cancer survivor Joan Elvin-McAree of the Ovarian and Breast Cancer Alliance. Ten years after receiving a diagnosis of both ovarian and breast cancer, the Seattle resident is helping raise awareness of these linked diseases. Similar minded organizations have come together in support of ovarian cancer awareness and have been present at the signing of these important proclamations by Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels and King County Executive Ron Sims. The group will soon head to Olympia for a proclamation signing with Governor Christine Gregoire.
